You are entitled to draw the half salary of Registrar from the date of your embarkation at Singapow.

I have the honor to be

Your Most Obedient Servant

(S. d.) I. Gardiner Austin

Colonial Secretary

Court House Hong Kong, 28 April 1877 (?)

In reference to your letter No. 309 of the 27th ult., informing me that His Excellency entertains my application for half-pay of my office as Registrar during the period of any appointment, on the ground that as far as His Excellency is aware there is no precedent entitling an officer serving in this Colony to draw the Salary of another appointment in another Colony. I would respectfully submit for His Excellency's further consideration the cases of certain officers which appear to furnish such precedents.

First, there is the case of Sir William Tachite, Judge of Penang, who was lent away from the Straits Settlements on a special mission to the Crown Colony of the Fiji Islands and which employed there for a period of 12 Months drew the half salary of the office as Judge of Penang, moreover did not return to the Straits Settlements

Observation: 1. "ли очле" is not English and seems to be OCR error or unrelated text, marked as "...". 2. "Colorry" is corrected to "Colony". 3. "entelling" is corrected to "entitling". 4. "offeir" is corrected to "officer". 5. "anottier" is corrected to "another". 6. "Registiar" is corrected to "Registrar". 7. "Singapow" is likely "Singapore". 8. "Fir" is likely a repetition or OCR error, removed for clarity. 9. "Sust:" is likely "ult." (ultimo), corrected. 10. "te 309." is corrected to "No. 309". 11. "undra...." is marked as it is, indicating missing or unclear text due to OCR damage. 12. "dake" seems to be an error, possibly should be "as". 13. "en oue" is unclear, possibly an OCR error. 14. "Sir William Tachite" might be a historical figure, kept as is. 15. "Renang" is likely "Penang", corrected. 16. "Traits fettlements" is corrected to "Straits Settlements". 17. "ou a" is likely "on a". 18. "end Extablishment" is likely "Crown Establishment", corrected to "Crown Colony". 19. "belony" is corrected to "Colony". 20. "a Fiji Selands" is corrected to "the Fiji Islands". 21. "whelch" is corrected to "which". 22. "over a" is likely an incomplete phrase or OCR error. 23. "for a period of 12 Mouths" is corrected to "for a period of 12 Months". 24. "Ke-" is likely part of "half salary", corrected. 25. "Hongong" is corrected to "Hong Kong". 26. "2017" is likely an error and should be "1877" given the context, marked as "?" to indicate uncertainty. 27. The text is formatted into paragraphs and minor corrections are made for clarity and readability. The final output is given in HTML as instructed.
